This stay

A little paradise on a tiny island in southern Alentejo. An enchanting place, perfect for rediscovering the pleasure of simplicity and relaxation. Every now and then, you may feel like leaving your hammock to take a dip in the lake or enjoy a delicious meal… The island is located on the lake formed by the dam on the Chança river, which marks the border between southern Alentejo and Spain. With only one hectare in size, this small patch of land is Portugal's last outpost. The surrounding landscape is dominated by evergreen oak trees. The hills are covered in cistus and lavender. In spring, their abundant blossoming is spectacular; throughout the year, their essential oils perfume the air. On the island, gardens cultivated according to the principles of organic farming offer a wide variety of fruits and vegetables. They enchant with their flowers and invite you to take a shaded break while watching frogs resting on lotus leaves…

Life on the island is shaped by simplicity, mindfulness and gratitude. It is about living in harmony with nature… and rediscovering true happiness. The accommodations are mainly huts, caravans or constructions combining both, decorated with great care and an abundance of wood. Overrun by lush vegetation of flowering climbing plants, the place takes on the feel of an oasis in summer. Settled in a hammock under a pergola of passionflowers, you can savour the lifestyle and the luxury of Tartaruga's inhabitants. Important: we offer full board stays only. Three vegetarian meals per day are offered at a price of €20 per person.
