How a place gets into the catalogue

01 — Application and cross-checking

The host describes their place: equipment, energy source, water management, food, materials, access by public transport, certifications held.

We do not take their word for it. We cross-check what they declare against what is publicly available — the property’s own website, the registers of the certification bodies, the reviews and comments left by travellers who have slept there. Anything that does not check out earns no points.

Those statements will be published on the listing. They are therefore made in front of future travellers, who will sleep there and see whether the truth was told.

02 — Checking the labels

If a label is declared, we check it with the body that issues it. A label that has expired, does not exist, or has not been audited by an independent third party earns no points.

It is the only check we can carry out seriously — and we do carry it out.

03 — Calculating the eco-score

Seven dimensions, one hundred points, a public scale: energy 20, water 15, waste 15, food 15, mobility 15, building 10, certifications 10.

The calculation is mechanical. We adjust nothing by hand, and nobody can negotiate their score.

04 — Publication and updates

The score is recalculated every time the listing changes. A host who loses a certification sees the score drop on its own, without anyone having to step in.

The breakdown is on display: the traveller sees where each point comes from, and why the others are missing.

05 — What the method does not do

We issue no label and we certify nobody. We send nobody to sleep on site. We do not read electricity bills.

Audits are the business of the external labels — EU Ecolabel, Green Key, BIO HOTELS — not ours. Claiming otherwise would be exactly the greenwashing we hold against everyone else.

A traveller who finds a gap between the listing and reality writes to us, and we put it right. That is the only field check that exists here, and it is done by you.
