Tapir Lodge was founded with a clear purpose: to offer travelers an authentic and eco-conscious way to experience Ecuador's Amazon, in harmony with both nature and the local community. Located in the heart of the Cuyabeno Wildlife Reserve, Tapir Lodge was built in close partnership with families from the Siona community. We share our ecotourism activities and profits with them, ensuring that responsible travel supports those who call the jungle home. As one of the first eco-lodges in the region, we operate fully on solar energy, use composting toilets, and minimize our footprint in everything we do — especially when it comes to protecting the Cuyabeno River and its wildlife. Instead of traditional huts, our two 15-meter towers offer a unique stay high above the forest floor. This design brings you closer to the jungle's magic while reducing our impact on the land. At Tapir Lodge, we believe in nature, people, and purpose — and we invite you to experience the Amazon with us, in a way that truly matters.
Kurt Beate – Owner at Tapir Lodge

Our Lodge: 100% Solar Powered The lodge was built with natural materials and runs entirely on solar energy. No noisy generators (unlike many other lodges) — just silence and the sounds of the jungle. We use composting dry toilets and manage waste in an eco-friendly way to minimize our impact. In the kitchen, we use local and natural products whenever possible. Respect for Wildlife In the Amazon, we are guests. That's why: We never get too close to animals. We avoid using laser pointers or strong lights, so we don't disturb them. All our guides follow strict standards for responsible tourism and ethical wildlife observation.
If you're looking for the classic Amazon experience with easy canoe exploration, December through March is often considered the best period due to the higher water levels. If your priority is hiking, insects, and rainforest exploration on foot, August through November is an excellent choice. No matter when you visit, Cuyabeno offers exceptional biodiversity and unforgettable wildlife encounters throughout the year.
Working with the Community We work closely with the local Siona community. Our guides are from the region and have deep knowledge of the rainforest. Our excursions take place in traditional canoes used by the Siona people. Community visits are respectful and focused on authentic cultural exchange.
