Since 1990, Herdade do Freixo do Meio has been working towards the ecological and social regeneration of the Alentejo Montado, combining agroecology, permaculture and biodynamic farming. Recognised as a Private Protected Area by the Portuguese State, it embodies a cooperative farm model where food sovereignty, renewable energy and biodiversity lie at the heart of every decision. Welcoming travellers means inviting them to experience and understand a living form of agriculture — one that respects the land and its communities.
Spring (March–May) is ideal for discovering the Montado in bloom and its educational activities; autumn (September–November) is the season of the bolota and the transhumance of Iberian pigs, a truly unique experience.
