Garth Glamping is an eco-conscious off-grid retreat on Ynysgau Farm — a 100-year-old working cattle farm in Gwaelod y Garth (Cardiff, Wales, UK). Just 10-20 minutes from Cardiff city centre yet nestled in the foothills of Garth Mountain (immortalized in the Hugh Grant film The Englishman Who Went Up A Hill But Came Down A Mountain) and bordering the River Taff. Family-run by Jordan Lewis and Gerwyn Lewis with the blessing of step-father Clive, who has lived and farmed this land for over 80 years. The site opened in April 2025 and has quickly gained recognition for its deliberate off-grid approach combined with easy city access (15-minute walk from the local train station, cycling accessible via the Taff Trail from Cardiff). Only 5% of the farm land has been developed for the project, preserving the traditional working cattle farm character. Shared facilities: pristine modern toilet block and shower enclosure, communal rustic kitchen (fridge/freezer, hob, kettle, gas BBQ, full crockery, cutlery, pots and pans, washing-up), bottled water station for refilling flasks. On-site experiences: Nature Play Area for children, outdoor games to borrow, board games / books / magazines in every tent, private fire pits (firewood available for purchase). Documented eco practices: SOLAR ENERGY throughout, water from refurbished farm well, no power outlets in tents (radical digital detox), limited/no WiFi, solar lighting, reduced plastic use, eco-friendly toiletries. Surroundings: ancient woodland (oak and beech), river fishing and wild swimming in River Taff, walking trails, Blackweir music series and Cardiff events venues (Cardiff Castle, Principality Stadium for Oasis / Stereophonics / Tom Jones concerts).

Garth Glamping was born from the Lewis family's desire to share their century-old livestock farm while preserving it: only 5% of the land has been developed for guests, leaving the rest to its traditional farming purpose. The camp runs entirely off-grid — solar energy, water from the farm's own well, no electrical outlets in the tents — to encourage a genuine digital detox. Car-free access is at the heart of the project: a 15-minute walk from the station and directly connected to Cardiff by bike along the Taff Trail.
Spring to autumn (April to October), with wonderful summer accessibility for wild swimming in the Taff and events in Cardiff.
