Fajã dos Padres is an exceptional hidden paradise located on the south coast of Madeira Island (Ribeira Brava, Portugal). Described as an island within the island of Madeira, the site is accessible only by a modern cable car, descending 300 metres along an impressive cliff, or by boat — with no roads and no cars, offering a truly radical model of sustainable mobility.
A former 16th-century Jesuit estate, Fajã dos Padres is now a secluded coastal paradise featuring an unspoiled beach, traditional cottages, and unique tropical farming.
It holds several prestigious certifications and awards, including Green Key (international environmental certification), the PNT24 Authentic Tourism Award (National Authentic Tourism Award), and the Tripadvisor Travelers' Choice Award. It has also been recommended by The Guardian.
Eight unique cottages are available for accommodation: Boat House, Sailor's House, Bungalow, José Soldado House, Vine House, Julia's House, Seifia House, and Tia Maria.
The property features a seaside restaurant serving authentic Madeiran cuisine prepared with ingredients grown directly on the estate. Its documented organic farm produces mangoes, bananas, avocados, other tropical fruits, as well as notable local wine.

Fajã dos Padres is committed to environmental, social and corporate sustainability, documented on a dedicated page of the website. The estate practices organic farming — tropical fruits and wine production — and offers an active volunteering programme to engage visitors and the local community. The complete absence of roads and cars on the property, accessible only by cable car or boat, embodies a radical vision of slow travel and reconnection with nature.
Open all year round; extended hours in summer (27 June – 15 September, 10:00–20:30), reduced hours for the rest of the year (10:00–18:00).
The estate's organic farm produces mangoes, bananas, avocados and other tropical fruits, as well as a remarkable wine; these ingredients are used directly at the seaside restaurant for an authentic Madeiran cuisine with an ultra-short supply chain.
