Bubble in France

Falling asleep under the stars without sleeping outdoors. A sphere, a bed, and the whole sky.

Also available in:FrançaisDeutschEspañolItalianoPortuguês

The bubble is the most photographed stay in the category and one of the hardest to get right. The principle is simple: an inflatable sphere held under pressure by a silent blower, a bed at the centre, and a 360° view of the canopy and the sky. What separates a great bubble from a bad night comes down to three details: the location (far from light pollution), the ventilation (without which condensation ruins the transparency) and privacy (an opaque section is essential).

France has more unique stays than any other country in Europe — several thousand addresses, from the Vosges to the Dordogne. The difficulty is not finding one, but telling the genuinely committed places apart from those content with green vocabulary.

What to check before you book

Three things the directories will not tell you, and that separate a good night from a bad one.

1

Hunt for light pollution. A bubble three kilometres from a lit retail park will show you no stars at all: always ask for a photo of the night sky taken on site.

2

The blower runs all night. It is silent in the good bubbles and audible in the bad ones — that is the first thing to look for in the reviews.

3

In summer a bubble can become a greenhouse. Check it is shaded during the day and properly ventilated; in winter, check the heating.

Typical price

180 – 300 €Observed range for two people, one night, outside peak season. Weekends, bank holidays and school holidays usually add 20–40%.

Frequently asked questions

Can you really see the stars from a bubble?

It depends entirely on the location. Under a dark sky the experience is stunning: the Milky Way is visible from the bed. Near a town or a streetlight you will see almost nothing. This is criterion number one, ahead of comfort and ahead of price.

Is there any privacy in a transparent bubble?

Serious bubbles include an opaque section — usually the bed area plus an airlock leading to a separate bathroom. Fully transparent bubbles exist, but they require a completely isolated site.

Which region has the most choice in France?

The Périgord and the Dordogne have the highest density, followed by the Ardèche, Brittany and the Vosges. But the Hauts-de-France and Gascony, less touristed, often offer better rates and real quiet.
